What is NLP?
It’s interesting isn’t it? As NLP has become more recognized, I have got to the point of not wanting to discuss anything about it, becoming very picky with who I engage in conversation with.
The main reason I shy away is the need to put NLP in a box. If someone came to me and asked I would have my slant on it (if I answered), but the next NLP’er may come up with a different explanation; along with all the many books on the subject all professing to explain.
I get uncomfortable with this. Partly because I have listened to many explanations of NLP and disagreed myself and partly because my own journey, although quite a way in only really seems like touching the surface.
It’s a bit like religion in that respect (and I am not religious). The way one religion sees God compared to another; the way members of the same religion see their own deity compared to each other. Who’s right and who’s wrong?
Of course, everyone and no-one I guess.
If you are a beginner, or even if you have experience, and you want to know what NLP is, my advice would be to start (or continue) the journey. Take courses, with different trainers, different codes, etc. and find one that suits.
